Pick up the crumbs.

What matters is rarely in the brief. It's in the crumbs.

We deal in insight, and insight lives in the offhand comment, the corridor remark, the thing the staffer mentions on the way out. Every client, politician, journalist and counterparty drops crumbs. Pick them up, write them down, store them where a colleague can find them. The crumbs we don't capture walk out the door.

  1. 01One canonical place per client where crumbs live. Never private notebooks alone.
  2. 02Within 24 hours of a meeting, crumbs go in. Same-day if it was substantive.
  3. 03Weekly client review: ‘what's the new crumb?’
  4. 04Handover documents transmit crumbs, not just status.
